Barking at the Moon was originally developed as a high performance diet. It has no grains, and the only source of carbohydrates is potatoes, which holds the formula together.
The philosophy of the Atkins Diet was shifting the source of energy in
the body. Garbs release energy slowly. But if you have low carbs, the body shifts to using fat as energy. Fat gives quick energy.
We tested Barking with sporting, hunting, agility, herding and rescue dogs.
When asked for the results, we were told that the dogs moved like lightning. This was the expected results.
However, some of the dogs lost weight. We suggest that three weeks before
the event, feed Barking At The Moon. Then, after the event, feed our Solid Gold
MMillennia, which is a bulk-up diet. This way, you have the best of both worlds.
In addition to being a slim down muscle building diet, Barking does other things
An epileptic study at John Hopkins University found that the less grain eaten, the lower incidences of epilepsy. The on going study was with people. We use no grains.
Doctors with cancer patients and diabetic patients are experimenting with low carb diets. Cancer cells and diabetic cells rely on carbs. If you lower the carbs, does this affect the condition? The study is ongoing.
The protein in Barking at the Moon is from fresh turkey and hook and line caught wild salmon from Alaska. We don't use farmed salmon which are fed genetically modified organism (GMO) corn. A pesticide was put into corn. So when the bugs ate the corn, they fell off dead. When people ate the corn tortillas from the GMO corn, they became sick. When people ate these corn flakes they became sick and the corn flakes were pulled off the market. When chickens ate the corn, they died. When pigs were fed this corn, they did not reproduce for a year, according to the Iowa Department of Agriculture. The FDA says this GMO corn can be put only into pet foods and livestock feed. Farmed salmon is feed GMO corn.
The meat protein is 42%. We use only oils, never fat which may be rancid. Our oils are olive oil and flax seed oil. The guaranteed analysis has no category for oils so we must list the oils as fat, even though no fats are present.
We use no glutens which come from grains. Glutens, as in soybean, wheat and corn are a major allergen. We use no sunflower oil. The National Cancer Institute in Sweden says sunflower oil increases the risk of cancer by 69%.
Barking is not for senior dogs. Seniors need less protein. Our Holistique Blendz is only 18% protein and is suitable for that. 18% protein is the minimum protein amount that supports life in a dog. Anything less than 18% causes muscle tissue to breakdown. Barking is not for dogs with liver kidney or pancreatitis problems. Since they need low protein as in our Holistique Blendz dog food. Broccoli is used. Many nutritionists suggest that broccoli is a cancer fighter since it doesn't permit cancer cells to adhere to the cells of the body. Blueberries help vision as well as the heart and circulation. Carrots help vision also. There are many studies about lycopene in tomatoes. The American Longevity Coalition has petitioned the FDA six times to allow health claims for lycopene reducing the risk of cancer. The FDA has postponed their petition decision six times.
